The legend of Murano glassmaking was born when the Venetian Republic (fearing fire and destruction to the city’s wooden buildings) ordered their glassmakers to move their foundries to the island of Murano in 1291. Murano’s glassmakers were soon the island’s most prominent citizens, and it’s obvious why - some of their glass work is literally jaw dropping.
