I recently purchased an AVerTV Volar GPS 805 for my EeePC, and I’m incredibly happy with the results. The AVerTV USB stick not only acts as a GPS receiver, but also as a digital TV receiver – so it kills 2 birds with 1 stone, which is great for keeping things portable. I’m using the AverTV Volar 805 and my EeePC with the FreeDrive mapping software, it acts just like any dedicated GPS unit, with voice prompts for turns, and the ability to record and playback your journey.
If you’re after a good quality PC webcam but don’t want to spend “Logitech prices”, then it’s worth checking out the Sony EyeToy. If you’re using Windows XP, then you can easily use the EyeToy as a webcam, and the quality is equal to some of the much more expensive cameras – the EyeToy even has a built in microphone so you can use it for video chat or Skype. If you don’t own a PlayStation2 and have to buy a game just to get the EyeToy, you could always just resell the game – you might even end up getting the EyeToy ‘for free’.
If you’re running any kind of homebrew software on your Sony PSP, then these little card readers are a great tool to have. They let you read and write to Sony Memory Sticks using your home PC USB port.
We just picked up a couple of these insanely cheap USB audio adapters – now we can plug out Skype headsets into the FRONT USB port on our desktop PCs without having to crawl under the desk to get to the microphone and headphone jacks. They look pretty nasty, but the throwaway price is awesome.
