Buying a Fender Jaguar
Musical instruments No Comments »I’ve wanted a Fender Jaguar ever since I was a kid, and now that I can afford one - there’s nothing stopping me! I’m probably going to get a Japanese reissue, mainly because of the price - but also because I actually want something in ‘as new’ condition - not a beaten up vintage classic. Olympic White with the brown shell pickguard please!
Mighty Bright XtraFlex
Musical instruments No Comments »Mighty Bright XtraFlex lights are made to illuminate sheet music - but they’re also excellent if you’re a keyboard player, mixer, or guitarist who needs to see what’s going on with your rig or rack effects. This little babies have super long battery life, and feature a neat little clip that will hold them onto just about anything.
Korg CA-30 Chromatic Tuner
Everything else, Musical instruments No Comments »The high accuracy and superb functionality of the Korg CA-30 chromatic tuner has made it a worldwide favorite. With even more features, like a pitch reference tone and quinta-flat tuning, the CA-30 packs basic functionality and convenient tuning functions into an ultra-compact body. The CA-30 is small enough to fit into your guitar case and rugged enough to take gigging.
Roland TB-303 for sale
Musical instruments No Comments »About five years ago I sold all my lovely old analog Roland synths and moved over to the wonderful world of VST instruments. I don’t have the space or the desire to own classic 80s synths anymore, but there’s one synth that I’ve promised myself I’ll own one day - the legendary TB-303. I’ve seen plenty of them for sale, but they’re either trashed, or have ‘useful’ modifications. I want an original, unmodified TB-303, with the sexy silver carry case. I’ve got the cash put away, and one day when I see one for the right price - it will be all mine. And then I’ll look at it in wonder, wondering wft I’ll do with it
What is the best guitar capo?
Musical instruments No Comments »I’ve tried 3 different brands of guitar capo in the last month. The first one I tried was a ‘no-name’ quick change capo from China, it worked fine on 5 strings, but it was so poorly manufactured that it couldn’t hold down the high E. The second one I tried was an Alice quick release capo, which was much better than the no-name capo, but it was just so ugly that I couldn’t live with it! The third and final capo I tried was a Dunlop trigger capo. I’ve used it on my Telecaster, Takamine acoustic and a friends acoustic 12 string, and it works perfectly on all of them - plus the trigger design actually works. My friend has an old Shubb capo, and also a new Kyser capo - and he offered to swap them both for my new Dunlop trigger capo - any capo that can firmly hold down all 12 strings on my friends beaten up 12 string has gotta be good. I’m keeping it!
Gripmaster finger exerciser
Musical instruments, Sports and outdoors 1 Comment »If you’re a guitar player, an ultra serious gamer, or even an arm wrestler - then this is something you should add to your weaponry. Gripmaster finger excericers come in a variety of ’strengths’, so you can tweak your grip excercises depending on your needs. These things are built tough, and last forever.
I’m learning the tin whistle!
Musical instruments No Comments »If you’ve got even the vaguest interest in traditional Irish music, then buy yourself a tin whistle today! They’re really inexpensive, even for a top brand, and they weigh next to nothing, so shipping isn’t much even if you buy one from Ireland. I bought an Feadog and a Waltons online for the same price as a nasty no-name whistle at my local music store. You won’t be playing like Liam O’Flynn in a hurry, but you’ll have some fun trying. I’ve found that the kids absolutely love ‘playing’ the tin whistle too.
Line 6 Pod - Marshall stack in a box
Musical instruments No Comments »It’s not just a Marshall stack, but also a Vox AC30, Roland JC-120, or whatever you can program into the thing. The Line 6 Pod 2.0 is one of those magic boxes (it’s shaped more like a kidney bean!) created specifically for guitarists that can emulate just about any stomp box and amp combination known to man. You can also download effects patches from the internet and dump them into the Pod. I’ve had one of these for years, and have gradually sold all my amplifiers because I simply don’t use them anymore. The Pod can even be used live, direct into the P.A - which means you don’t have to stuff around all night transporting your amp and speaker boxes.
Cheap student violin
Musical instruments No Comments »I’ve been wanting to learn how to play the fiddle for years now, and I finally got around to buying a cheap student violin last week. I wasn’t expecting anything spectacular for what I paid for it ($35 + postage), but it’s actually pretty nice - and is easily good enough for me to learn on. It even came with the bow, rosin and a case - which for $35 is a bargain.
