The Gaggia Titanium is a fully automatic espresso machine and grinder. It’s one of the nicest looking machines I’ve seen, and has a sturdy metal chassis and gorgeous brushed stainless steel panelling on the front. The Gaggia Titanium is a totally automatic machine, and will make espresso with the touch of a button – it will grind the coffee beans and extract your espresso directly into your cup, and then remove the used coffee grounds from the brewing head into an internal waste container. Just the thing for those “mornings after the night before”.
After seeing Gordon Ramsay using a mandolin slicer, I decided that maybe they were worth trying, so last week I went out and purchased one. I can’t believe how cool it is. We’ve been using it to make REALLY nice sweet potato fries, and it’s an absolute winner for slicing onion (especially for burgers and salads). For such a cheap piece of plastic, it’s a surprisingly elegant and super efficient kitchen tool.

I’ve been drinking much less coffee than I used to, so when I recently went out to buy a new espresso machine, I gave myself a limit of $300 AUD, and promised myself not to get carried away with coffee machine snobbery. I kept my promise, and ended up getting a tiny Sunbeam EM3800. It’s turning out be a perfect little espresso machine. It cost well under $200 AUD, and to be honest, in my opinion it makes a better coffee than my parents $2000 Rancilio (don’t them that though!).
A friend of mine dropped by the other day and brought a lovely Alex Liddy tiffin (aka dabba) full of Indian food for lunch. Tiffins are ultra cool lunch boxes that have several separate layers for storing hot (or cold) food in them. They’re all sealed, so they don’t spill – and they keep the food piping hot. The food was delicious, but the best thing is that she let me keep the tiffin box. It will be great for picnics, and even for keeping food hot at home.
I’m shocked at how many people neglect to consider the importance of buying a decent burr coffee grinder. They spend big money on a fancy espresso machine, and then run pre groung supermarket coffee through it. If you want to make your espresso machine happy, then feed it fresh home ground coffee.
